Luncheon Keynote Address: This Won't Hurt A Bit! (And Other Fractured Truths in Healthcare)
By Karyn Buxman, RN, MSN, CSP, CPAE
Healthcare is full of fractured truths! And while the state of healthcare is no joke, it can be a laughing matter. Unfortunately, healthcare professionals from coast to coast lament, "There's nothing funny happening where I work," or "Our boss thinks humor is unprofessional," or "I've lost my laugh." Nurse humorist Karyn Buxman is here to remind us "what's so funny" and how it can help us-even when it's sick humor! Don't miss this session where she will help us rediscover where our humor resources are and what to do even when there's nothing funny going on.

Other topics to be discussed include: standards, types, use, selection and limitations of respirators. Practical comparisons of several models of PAPRs will also be presented. Certification Made Simple: Preparing for Your CIC Credential

Earning the CIC credential demonstrates mastery of the principles of infection prevention and control and epidemiology, and is an important milestone in any infection prevention professional's career. Individuals earn their CIC by sitting for and passing a comprehensive examination developed by the Certification Board for Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC); those who are certified are authorized and encouraged to use the internationally recognized initials "CIC" in their titles. This workshop will explain the importance of earning the CIC credential and its positive impact upon job performance and improved overall patient safety, as well as inform participants about what to expect during the certification examination process and help them prepare.
Additional registration is required for this half-day workshop.
Speaker: Margaret S. Gallagher, MS, RN, CIC & Kathy Roye-Horn, RN, CIC
